THE MAGIC OF MENOPAUSE
Menopause is a time to flex the wings of the heart.
Trust your own timing, surrender to a force that is greater than you!
Take measure of your own worth.
EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING MAD – YOU ARE NOT!
A POWERFUL EMERGENCEMy experience of Menopause was momentous. I remember at one point crying out… What am I changing into?
Going through menopause, which lasted about eight years and turning 50, were milestones of great significance.
Something tangible and yet almost incommunicable took place. Issues of my souls fulfilment and those of my body came more sharply into awareness. I find myself living in a greater sense of who I am and what I am here to do. What is Normal? Menstrual and menopausal symptoms are not to be expected. Not every woman experiences them AND they are not normal. As much as we are led to believe they are. Symptoms are connected to the way in which we lives our lives, our nutrition, diet, electromagnetic interference, street lighting, disconnection from our body wisdom, the moons cycles, stress - all of these things impact on our cylce. In cultures where the women work on the land, mensturate until their 70's symptoms are unheard of.
Reading an article on the Astrological influences in the cycles of our lives brought a few things into greater clarity. Chiron’s return at this time brings our wound to the surface for healing. I have been on a journey of conscious personal discovery for thirty years. During menopause I was shocked after all the soul searching work I had done over the years that what was perhaps my biggest wound emerged out of nowhere. Although I had suspected I had been seriously abused as a child I could not believe that in all of those years of seeking it out I could not find it. Wham! There is no hiding during THE CHANGE.So menopause is time to explore your personal wound. Where does the tension of this wound reside in your body and what are its gifts? Throughout human history (and Herstory - my
addition), elders have occupied a special position in society. They
have painstakingly accumulated reservoirs of personal experience,
knowledge, wisdom - or compassionate insight and a sense of the
enduring qualities and relationships around them. They freely offer
this wisdom of living generations of their people in an effort to help
them connect harmoniously with their past, present, and future. Extracted from Wisdom of the Elders. Peter Knudson and David Suzuki, The Magic of Menopause is a time of sharing and visioning.
You can explore:- What aspects of yourself have you been living? - What are you aware of that is changing right now in your life - What do you truly value? - What is unlived in you - aspects of your self, dreams, visions, experiences? - How can you simplify your life?
You will explore some of the wisdom that you have anchored in yourself through your life’s experience. You are asked what ways do you think you can be of service, as a wise woman, in your community?
The cycle of our woman’s life - from 48 - 59 gives birth to more focus on self and community. We are more able to simplify our experiences and our responses, be less reactive, take a back seat look at life. A WARNING In the process of my change I saw three doctors. Every one of them suggested I took Hormone Replacement Therapy. THIS IS NOT THERAPEUTIC! By suppressing symptoms and smoothing things out it is possible that we are missing an opportunity to truly gather wisdom.
Menopause, like menstruation and birth is not naturally a medical condition that requires drugs in order to alleviate physical symptoms. For ill health reasons some women may require medication. This comment is a powerful testimony about symptoms changing through having powerful experiences. Margaret had a three hour process with magical results. The
Rite of Passage Journey was an enormous vehicle in helping me to accept
menopause and to release a lot of anger. It brought me understanding
and joy in the past, the here and now and in the process of aging.
Since the ritual I created during the workshop, my hot flash fires have
diminished greatly and have lost their intensity. I am sure that the
two are connected. Margaret Katz, Vancouver.
