GETTING
REAL YOUTH WEEK AWARD
Is being given
to young people who contributed ion an outstanding way before,
during or after National Youth Week in Australia.
This is an
Annual Award and the young people who received in last year were
recognised and honoured for their efforts.
WHY WE
ARE DOING IT ?
For two reasons:
One is to recognise the valuable contribution young Australians
make to their local communities.
The other
is to let people know about this valuable book.
PLEASE
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
We are looking
for young people around Australia who have made a valuable contribution
to Youth Week activities and live in your area. Our aim is to
reward those who have made a major contribution to youth week,
or community event in any given town or suburb.
This Award
includes a Certificate of Recognition and a copy of the recently
published book GETTING
REALÉ about growing up!
THIS IS
AN ANNUAL EVENT.
THIS GETTING
REAL AWARD will be sent to those young people who stand out
either because of their enthusiasm, courage, leadership, or excellent
contribution during Youth Week Events.
Roxanne O'Kane
was nominated by Maroochydore Library and was given the Award
at a special Council Meeting. This is what Karen had to say about
the event.
The Getting
Real award 2003 was presented to Roxanne O'Kane at a special Youth
Council meeting attended by the mayor and counselors of Maroochy
Shire.
This award
served to spotlight the unique contribution Roxanne had made to
the successful running of Maroochy Libraries celebrations during
National Youth Week 2003.
It provided
an opportunity for Maroochy Shire Council to recognise how important
it is for young people to be involved in the coordination of events
for the youth of the shire and the importance of their voice in
shaping the community's future.
Council has
no formal awards of this nature and THE GETTING REAL AWARD
has allowed the community to celebrate young people and their
achievements.
Without it,
Roxanne's dedication to her peers and community would not have
been as widely recognised.
Maroochy Libraries
were impressed with the high caliber of information for youth
contained in Amrita Hobbs book GETTING REAL...about growing up!
To help promote
this new title, a book launch was held for Amrita at Nambour Library.
Attended by over 30 people and the local media the launch was
a success and helped publicise this wonderful resource to the
community, bookstores and other libraries in the region.
