It communicates hauntingly to the teenager in every adult.
GETTING
REAL... about growing up! TeenSpeak, anecdotes and stories make GETTING REAL... about growing up! enriching and spiritually uplifting. Stories are a great way of communicating a point and make it easier to understand and empathise when written in such language. TeenSpeak is an integral part of the book. It's great to hear the opinion of other young people. The style is diverse and effective. I
think the book will be an enjoyable and knowledgeable read for
both parents and teenagers.
Simon
deBois a Youth Worker says: It's layout and the photographs make it immediately appealing to a wide audience. As well as youth, parents, teachers and youth workers, adults generally, also find the material valuable and easily accessible. GETTING REAL... about growing up! shoots from the hip about societies taboos - making the issues clear and easy to read about. It also offers practical suggestions about how to deal with and resolve the pain associated with them if that is part of the readers story. It inspires every reader to move beyond some of the limitations imposed on them from outside authority, their family background and the overcoming of childhood hurts. This book encourages readers to find their own uniqueness and express themselves in a powerful and effective way from a loving heart. TEENAGERS WILL READ THIS BOOK! I gave this book to a friend of mine. She was having trouble with her teenage daughters. She looked at me as if I were mad. They don't read books! she exclaimed. I insisted that she give it a try. I chuckled when I heard her report the next day. She gave the book to her daughters. Their response was - What would SHE know- she's not a teenager. The book was left on the coffee table. Whilst making dinner she listened to giggles, chuckles and exclamations as her daughters poured over the book. That evening, for the first time in months the TV did not go on!!!
My friend told me she was absolutely amazed. I wasn't. Needless
to say, she bought her own copy. My son has been on antidepressants for years. It's heartbreaking to see what has happened to him. A friend of mine gave me a loan of the book. He insisted I let my son have a look at it. I was doubtful the Peter would even bother to open it.
I can't tell you how surprised I was when three days later he
was still reading it.
